Today when furnishing your new home, you will probably go and buy a rug from a High Street shop and place it on your floor. However, it has not always been this way. Rug making has been traced back to ancient times and it is thought they were first made and used by nomadic tribes in Asia. The oldest rug that has been discovered was found in 1949 in Southern Russia. It dates back to 500 B.C. and is known as the Pazyrk carpet.

However, when rugs were first made, they were not just used as a floor covering. The tradition was to use rugs to decorate walls, ceilings and tables. This type of usage was particularly prevalent in Asia. The rugs would be made by hand on a loom, which was a laborious and time-consuming process. To begin making a rug a loom must be set up with warps, which are thick and strong pieces of (usually) cotton of wool that run the length of the rug. Wefts run the width of the rugs and are normally weaved in and out of the warps to form the foundation. Knots of the material the rug is being made from are then tied around the warps to form the pile of the rug.

Luckily, in the present day, machines have been invented that can do this job much more easily and quickly. Modern rugs are normally made in factories on mechanical looms, which means the process is much less laborious. One of the first mechanical looms invented was the Jacquard loom, so called because Joseph Marie Jacquard invented it. The loom works by creating designs from a pattern that has been placed onto a card in the form of punched holes. This is then placed into the loom and the hooks that create the design are either raised up or down depending on what is punched on the card. This began the process of revolutionising the way rugs were made, by cutting out the hours of labour.

Despite this, there is still a niche in the market for handmade rugs and it is still a profitable trade for some people. One of the reasons for the interest in handmade rugs today can be traced back to an event in Vienna in 1891. The Austrian Trade Museum held an exhibition of handmade Oriental rugs that came from major traders and Austrian royalty. The exhibition also displayed the famous Ardabil carpet, just after it had been restored. This carpet was purported to have one of the most famous Persian carpets. It can be seen today on display in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

This, and other public displays of carpets resulted in an increased interest in handmade carpets and Persian rugs in particular. Books were produced which contained pictures of particularly beautiful carpets. In addition to this, information was given about the designs and weaving and production techniques. This made handmade rugs into something of an art form and wealthy people all over the world began to purchase them to decorate their homes. Today, people are still buying handmade rugs to enhance the décor in their homes and handmade rugs are still being made all over the world.

Is getting up a flight of stairs in your home next to impossible? No matter if you or a family member is having this difficulty, consider a stairlift. An economical approach to getting around in a house or building, a stairlift has two basic components: track system and a chair that runs along it. Essentially operating as a lifting device, a stairlift plugs into an outlet to operate but can use direct, or battery, power in emergencies.

A standard stairlift is straight and runs alongside a staircase. Coming in a variety of sizes, standard stairlifts can support up to 500 pounds in some cases and, to take up less space, are designed with swivel seat that fold up. When the user goes to use the device, he or she presses a button for the chair to move up or down the rail. In case the chair encounters an obstacle along the staircase, the device is equipped with emergency switches.

Straight stairlifts easily align with most staircases, but what about curved stairways? A stairlift, in this case, needs to be custom made. Although the device operates in the same manner, more work is involved in creating a curved stairlift. First, a stairway is assessed and pictures taken, and these measurements are given to the manufacturer to create a custom rail. The design and manufacturing process can take from four to eight weeks, and installation is an additional six to eight hours. But because manufacturers can create stairlifts that align with 90- or 180-degree curves, having a well-fitting and customized device for accessibility is a necessary investment.

Those getting around their home or outdoors may use a wheelchair or motor scooter, and a platform stairlift is able to accommodate this weight and size. While common in areas with public access, platform, or wheelchair, stairlifts can also be installed into homes – indoors and outside. Unlike their chair-and-rail counterparts, a platform stairlift is designed with edge flaps that act like a ramp and prevent the wheelchair or scooter from sliding off. In order for a wheelchair user to get full use of a multi-story home, platform stairlifts can be installed onto all staircases.

This Passive fire protection must comply with some listings and building codes for providing the effectiveness.

Fire extinguishers: This type of fire protection includes the compartmentalization of the whole building by using the fire proof walls and floors etc. Organizing the whole building will prevent the spread of fire quickly and reduces the damages of the building. This also gives time to the occupants in the emergency evacuation. Fire prevention includes the reduction of ignition sources and educates the occupants regarding the fire safety.

The ultimate goal for Passive fire protection is to protect the occupants and the items inside by testing the ability of the fire resistant walls floors even at 140 °C to 550 °C, which is the critical temperature for the structural steel, and it may collapse. To accomplish this aims many different materials are used in the design and construction system. The endothermic building material cannot withstand much heat. For example the concrete is an endothermic material. The water in them sublime during heat, thus they literally explode.

Lowes Charlotte , electrical supplies, okay let’s discuss Lowes Charlotte one of the largest home improvement stores chains in the United States . As electrical contractor we do primarily service work . This means we’re doing large number of small jobs each day . As we strive to stock the trucks with as many items as possible it is still necessary many times to make a trip to a local Charlotte Lowes store . I find overall that Lowes is much cleaner than their competitor . When you walk into a Lowes store it really has a different feel than the other box store , in that it is clean and it seems to be more in the homeowner based environment .

I like this because I want things easy to find and I like a nice clean atmosphere in which to shop . I have found the pricing to be competitive over the years with the other box store as I’m sure that they are comparing prices back and forth and have their own particular specials that they run in order to bring people into the stores . One specific feature that I really do like about Lowes Charlotte is that if you’re in any particular part of the store and you need assistance from one of their knowledgeable associates you can simply push a button and it pages and individual to come to that section and help you with whatever it is that you need help with . The other box stores do not offer this feature and it can be somewhat frustrating at times to find someone to come and help you in a certain department that you are shopping in . This is particularly helpful for homeowners who may not know exactly what they’re looking for . As far as the advice on how to do a certain type of job that’s pretty much hit and miss .

While these stores do try to hire people that have some knowledge in the different trades that they are representing in the different sections of the store I have found their experience to be somewhat minimal as the years go by . In all honesty the other store used to have a policy of having people that were actually in the trades and some of them are still lingering . So if you need real advice from a true professional you may want to call around to Lowes Charlotte stores or the other box store and see if they have in fact a person on staff who has knowledge and experience in the very trade associated with the project that you were undertaking . Another great feature of Lowes is there availability . They have just installed a new store on South Boulevard and from what I have seen it is up to par with the rest of the stores as far as quality and selection . This is just another great way that Lowes serves the community by having various locations so that no matter what job you are on you can quickly go drop by a local Lowes Charlotte store get in get the material that you need in get out and get the job done .

You just painted your fence—all 150 feet of it. It looks beautiful, a gleaming testament to your hard work. But now the birds have come. Perching and preening and studying the lay of your backyard. And while they’re busy, they start to drop their loads, streaking your beautiful freshly painted fence with unsightly droppings for the world to see. You get out the garden hose and you attack. The birds flee and you wash and scrub until the streaks are almost gone. But you realize that they will be back. You can’t stand guard with a hose in your hand 24/7. The birds know that. And you know it. So being smarter than the birds, you arm yourself with the latest bird proofing devices man in his infinite wisdom has developed. The deterrents that ornithologists and commerce have teamed up to create. Your arsenal is thus:

Bird Spikes. Want to prevent large birds such as pigeons, crows or gulls from landing on your fenceline? Bird Spikes are used to keep birds off by creating an un-even landing space. Birds know they cnanot get footing on the spikes, and will move on. Bird Spikes generally come in two foot sections and can be nailed, screwed, glued or tied down to most surfaces. The spikes are designed for ourdoor use and are a permanent solution for preventing birds from landing.

Transparent Bird Gel. Spread this invisible gel on the top of your fence and birds will hate you for taking away their poop stand. Pest birds can’t stand to set foot on the sticky sensation on their feet and will move on to a more comfortable spot. Each tube of bird gel will treat an area approximately 10 feet long by 3 inches wide. The sticky gel stays sticky in temperatures from 15F to 200F, and one application usually lasts up to 6 months outdoors. The gel is easily applied using virtually any standard caulking gun. It’s perfect for deterring pigeons, sparrows, crows, gulls, starlings and many other species of birds. The gels are non-toxic to birds, so you won’t have to worry about violating any protective species ordinances. The only caveat is to not use gels where birds have been nesting.

With spring approaching it’s time to fix things up around the house. The winter months may have left behind several problem areas. If you check your gutters I’m sure they need to be cleared of debris. If you noticed any drafts through your doors or windows you may need caulking or weather striping to create an air tight seal.

If you have a wooden deck or concrete patio you may consider pressure washing and sealing them. Start planning your patio or deck decor by shopping for outdoor furniture and plants. Check out your grill and prep it by cleaning the grates and filling the propane bottle for your first cookout. This can be a real exciting time of year for the entire family.

For most areas of the country the time is near for fertilizing your lawn and putting out grass seed where needed. The reward of a nice plush green lawn is just around the corner. Brighten up your exterior with flowering shrubs and nice pots of perennials. This will create a very appealing look surrounding your home.

Spring cleaning time is a lot of work, buy it’s also very refreshing, so hang in there. The windows will need to be washed inside and out. Check all of your screens to insure that you can allow the fresh spring air to blow through your home and not those pesky bugs.

A fresh coat of paint can brighten up your home like a sunny day. You may want to consider replacing those old and faded outlet covers with new ones to complete this fresh new look.

Carpet cleaning will give your home a fresh clean look and feel. In preparation for spring rains make sure you have rugs at all your entry ways to keep those floors clean. Heat and air vents can easily be replaced or painted to match your decor.

Inside your home you can replace some of your darker shades of fall and winter greenery or flower arrangements with brighter shades to create a springtime more energy building atmosphere. The cheerfulness and efficiency your efforts have created will bring daily rewards. Hang a colorful wreath on the front door and welcome the season.

I know this may sound like a lot of work and money, but just take it one step at a time. Visit your local discount home center for the best prices on everything you’ll need to spruce up your home.

If you are a do-it-yourself person, you will be surprised on how little these projects will cost you.

An appraisal helps determine the market value of your property. This is also known as the fair market value comparison or a market analysis. A home appraisal is an estimate of the worth of your property in an open and competitive market.

Whether you are buying, selling or trying to get a home equity loan, an appraisal is important. Being the seller, you would want the best possible price for your home and the appraisal process can help you. On the other hand, a buyer has to know whether the appraised value of the property is less or more than the asking price.

If you want to hire a professional to appraise your property, be prepared for an expensive and time-consuming appraisal. If you want a quick and affordable one, you can consult a service on the internet that could access all the data and report to your fast. Both appraisals contain the same important information and have the same guidelines.

A good appraisal should be an unbiased, professionally based opinion of your home and its market value based on the quality of functionality, appearance, construction and the value of similar homes in the real estate market.

It’s perfectly normal for homeowners to imagine a new addition, or at least some changes in the house. Living standards constantly change every day, which is good since nobody wants to live in a house with an unchanging atmosphere. Our home is probably the biggest and most beneficial property we could ever invest in. Real estate costs soar up day to day; therefore, you must do our best to retain the house from the best possible shape and form to find the most beneficial price once we decide to sell it.

Home improvement is the process of making changes to one’s home by improving the house’s looks. This is usually done by professional contractors, handymen or even the home owner himself. Home improvement is important in retaining one’s home. A well-maintained real estate property is very beneficial in the long run because it prevents the house from losing its’ value.

Remodeling does not necessarily mean that you have to make major changes. It can be as simple as changing the paint color of your bedroom, or laying a different color of carpet in your living room. Even the simplest renovations can make significant changes in the house’s ambience. Additional extensions can also be done; you can add verandahs, attics or even a garage.
